Sheng Hua Tang (Postpartum Herbal Tonic)
From the Classic Text Nüke Jinglun
“After childbirth, qi and blood are suddenly depleted and should be greatly nourished. However, while lochia remains, tonification risks stagnating the blood. Only Sheng Hua Tang both moves and nourishes — it can generate new blood and transform the old. It is truly a perfect remedy.”
Benefits of Sheng Hua Tang
Sheng Hua Tang is a traditional herbal formula that has been used by women after childbirth for centuries. As the name implies, it “generates” new blood and “transforms” (removes) old stagnant blood. The formula is adjusted in ingredient amounts and composition based on each mother’s individual condition to achieve the best recovery results.
Modern pharmacological research confirms that Sheng Hua Tang promotes milk production, stimulates uterine contractions, aids uterine involution, relieves spasms and pain, calms the mind, reduces inflammation to prevent infection, and expels blood stasis. It effectively treats postpartum blood stasis and abdominal pain, helps clear lochia completely, and relieves cold pain in the lower abdomen.

Usage and Suitable Users
Any mother — whether she delivered vaginally or by C-section — who experiences lochia with blood clots, lower back soreness, prolonged lochia, or abdominal pain after lochia has stopped may benefit from Sheng Hua Tang.
Recommended Usage
Duration: 7 days
Stop when: Lochia has cleared completely with no blood clots. Also discontinue if you develop a cold, fever, or mastitis.
(Taking Sheng Hua Tang on an empty stomach yields better results. It is generally taken once daily, divided into two doses — morning and evening — on an empty stomach.)
Neither too little nor too much is ideal. The dosage differs between vaginal and C-section deliveries. An appropriate amount helps clear lochia; taking too much may actually prolong bleeding, cause blood loss and anemia, and destabilize the regenerating uterine lining, leading to uncontrolled bleeding.
